packing for vacation during coronavirus

9 uncommon things you should pack for your vacation during the coronavirus pandemic

After persevering all those months under lockdown, it is reasonable to feel that strong urge to finally get out and go for a much-deserved vacation. However, we all know this time around you will have to pack more than your sunscreen and implement some good travel tips.

Whether you are planning on going for a long vacation or a trip to the beach, here are some of the things you should take with you.

1. Sunglasses.

Although you usually would carry sunglasses for shielding your eyes against the harmful UV rays, they are also crucial in preventing particles and germs from entering your eyes. From wind to small insects, these glasses will keep your eyes healthy during your vacation.

2. A travel thermometer.

A thermometer will come in handy whenever one falls ill during your trip. While it may help you in distinguishing real illness and a lazy one who doesn’t want to participate in chores, the thermometer is imperative if you’re going to minimize the exposure rate by going out to look for it in an unfamiliar environment.

3. Disposable gloves.

It is nearly impossible to stop yourself from touching some of the high contact areas that pose a considerable risk. For instance, you will need to pump gas or open doorknobs at the restroom. Disposable gloves will come in handy during such times. You must have a box with you regardless of whether you’re going for a vacation,  road trip, or running errands.

4. Travel snacks.

These are imperative if you want to manage hunger before you can access food. Packing enough travel snacks and water will save you from making unnecessary stopovers that might expose you to the novel coronavirus.

5. Disinfectants and paper towels.

I know, I know. You’re going for a vacation and not a cleaning trip. However, you should pack them and disinfect all those high grey surfaces, including remote controls, kitchen countertops, doorknobs, etc.

6. A car trash bag.

So you have the right PPE, but what about disposing of? That’s where the trash bag comes in. If disposed of wrongly, the disposable gloves and paper towels can significantly hurt the environment, not mentioning spreading the germs if you mishandle and toss them around in your car.

7. A first Aid Kit.

Accidents happen all the time, and although unavoidable, you can always prepare for them. Packing a first aid kit will come in handy when you experience those cuts during your vacation, as it will also save you from unnecessary exposure when heading to the nearest family.

I’d recommend you pack adhesive bandages, alcohol/antiseptic wipes, antidiarrheal tablets (Pepto Bismol or Imodium), and topical antibiotic cream.

8. Plastic bags for your remote.

Remotes are one of the germiest surfaces in a new place. Disinfect the remotes and/or put them in the plastic bags to protect you from unnecessary exposure to germs.

9. Travel laundry detergent.

I understand, I also hate doing laundry while I’m traveling. However, if you’re using a cloth mask (like I’ve been doing since the outbreak), you’ll need to wash it frequently during our trip. It is crucial that you do everything to keep you and your family safe while traveling during this pandemic.
